Sappi (SPP)

Formed in 1936 and headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa, Sappi Limited has grown through a series of strategic acquisitions to become a global manufacturer of fine paper, coated specialty paper, and pulp. The company's manufacturing operations span across nine countries in four continents with over 15,000 employees serving customers in more than 100 countries. Sappi has a diverse clientele, with sales coming from Europe, North America, South Africa, Asia, and elsewhere. The company organizes its business into two segments: Fine Paper (over 80% of sales) and Forest Products.

The Fine Paper segment makes coated and uncoated fine paper and specialty paper. Operations are carried out in North America, Europe, and South Africa. It also has a 34% share in a Chinese joint venture.

The Forest Products segment makes commodity paper products such as newsprint, packaging paper and pulp, as well as forest and timber products such as pulpwood, saw logs, and sawn timber for South Africa and other export markets. Based in South Africa, this business is also the world's largest producer of chemical cellulose (dissolving pulp)
