Headquartered in Walldorf, Germany, SAP AG (SAP) is one of the largest independent software vendors in the world and the leading provider of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software. Its solutions are designed to cater to the needs of organizations, ranging from small and medium businesses to large, global enterprises. SAP's business suite solutions help clients improve customer relationships, enhance collaboration, and improve efficiencies across their supply chains and business operations. The company reports its revenue in terms of two major segments: Product (72.1% of the revenues for 2Q08) and Services (26.9%) with the final 1% coming from other activities. Product revenues comprise Software sales (31.4% of total revenues), Maintenance revenues (38.4%) and Subscription-related and other software revenues (2.2%). Services revenues primarily consist of Consulting (21.9%), Training (4.0%), and Other services (1.0%) revenues. In terms of geographic segmentation, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) generated 53.6% of revenues in 2Q08, the Americas came in at 33.3%, and the remaining 13.1% of revenue came from the Asia Pacific region. Additionally, on October 8th, 2007, SAP announced it was acquiring Business Objects, a leading business intelligence software provider, for approximately 4.8 billion ($6.6 billion) in cash, which should boost the company's product offerings in this area. The acquisition is now competed.
