Germany-based Deutsche Telekom AG (DT) is a leading global telecommunications service provider with extensive operations in Germany, the U.K., and several other countries. It remains one of the largest telecom carriers in Europe with 35.2 million voice access lines (29.8 million in Germany), 14.6 million broadband lines (DSL covering almost all of Germany), and 125 million wireless customers worldwide as of June 30, 2008. The company operates in four broad business segments T-Com, T-Mobile, T-Systems, and T-Online. T-Com is the incumbent fixed-line operator in Germany. T-Mobile is the company's wholly-owned global wireless communications subsidiary, which has 30.7% of its subscribers in Germany, 13.4% in the U.K., 25.2% in the U.S. as well as much smaller majority-owned operations in Austria, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands. T-mobile competes with Vodafone and mmO2 in Germany and the U.K. It ranks fourth (in terms of subscribers) among the five national carriers in the U.S. T-Systems is a leading European IT service provider focused on business enterprises. T-Online is one of the largest European Internet service providers with approximately 14 million customers.
