Dade Behring Holdings, Inc. (DADE) is a manufacturer and distributor of in vitro diagnostics (IVD) products and services for clinical laboratories. Dade Behring's products and services comprise reagents and consumables, medical diagnostic instruments, and maintenance services. These are categorized into four business segments. The chemistry diagnostics business (66% of 2006 revenue) is engaged in routine chemistry/immunochemistry, cardiac, plasma proteins, and drugs of abuse testing, as well as therapeutic drug monitoring. The company has a routine chemistry/immunochemistry instrument platform called Dimension. The hemostasis business (18%) provides tests to measure a patient's ability to form and dissolve blood clots. The microbiology diagnostics business (10%) manufactures manual and automated Identification/Antibiotic Susceptibility Testing (ID/AST) products. Microbiology diagnostics products are available under the MicroScan trade name. The infectious disease diagnostic business (5%) is engaged in bacteriology, parasitology, and virology testing, including HIV and hepatitis testing. In addition to diagnoses of diseases, these tests are used for screening, in order to ensure a safe blood supply. The remaining 1% of revenue comes from other mature products that are no longer part of the company's core business.
